Mathematics is a core subject which is delivered in all SCE schools. SCE Secondary Schools have established a reputation for providing Mathematics lessons with a depth and range of experiences from Year 7 to Year 13.
Throughout Key Stage 3 Mathematics lessons focus on enhancing Mathematical technical skills. Topics build on what the learners already know and providing fresh challenges to motivate, stimulate and further develop their understanding. Schools provide curriculum opportunities that offer learners experience of mathematics outside as well as inside the school environment.
In Key Stage 4 learners take increasing responsibility for their own learning and develop their confidence and competence in a broader range of mathematics. Learners have opportunity to draw on work experience and other work-related learning to provide rich and relevant contexts within which they can develop their knowledge and understanding of mathematics.
At GCSE, schools offer a variety of pathways. All our schools offer GCSE Mathematics which follows the Edexcel examination board specification, except for King Richard School which offers the AQA examination board specification. Prince Rupert School offers GCSE Mathematics as a one year course. In addition, an increasing number of our schools will offer students with high achievement from Key Stage 3, the possibility of studying for an extra GCSE in Statistics.
In Key Stage 5 there is opportunity to study Advanced Level Mathematics. Some SCE Schools offer an A Level in Further Mathematics.
If your child has already started GCSE or A Level Mathematics, please check with the Subject Leader for Mathematics at their new SCE School on how transition can be accommodated.
