English is undergoing exciting and dynamic changes in our six Secondary Schools and one Middle School in line with UK National Curriculum guidelines. The Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 Schemes of Learning are being developed to include functional skills, cross curricular elements and ICT to inspire and motivate learners and equip them for life in the 21st Century.
At Key Stage 4 all our schools offer GCSE English Literature and Language and results in both subjects exceed the national average for A*-C passes. Media Studies is also an option at GCSE in some of our schools with Level Entry English available for some students who may not be able to access a GCSE course. At Key Stage 5 English Literature, English Language and Film Studies are offered at AS and A2.
Our English teams are committed to ensuring English is taught in exciting, engaging ways and make efforts to ensure there are real audiences and meaningful contexts for students when planning learning. Our English subject leaders are kept up to date with initiatives and current good practice through regular Subject Leader Development meetings and training courses.
