School Council

SCE schools value students' views and have introduced different strategies to allow students to make a difference to their school life. Offering students the freedom to influence their own learning environment can be very powerful. One very successful initiative has been the development of school councils.

These are groups of young people, who have been selected by their peers, whose task is to represent the views of other students at a 'council' meeting. These may be attended by, when invited, teachers, the Head teacher, parents and other students.

In some schools, the student council is well established and substantial changes have been made to improve the quality of school life. Examples include introducing a 'friendship bench', changes in school uniform and what is available to eat in the tuck shop.
