Adults

Adults help me to develop my skills. They plan activities for me as well as support me when I plan my own activities. They watch me play so they know what I need to learn. They ask me questions to extend my thinking. They also make sure I am safe and secure.

Bb

Bikes

We ride the bikes to develop our physical skills. We make sure that we don't bump into anyone and change our path way to avoid a collision! We also have to learn to take turns on the bikes and understand that we can't always have our own way.

Cc

Circle time

In circle time we develop our listening skills. It is a chance for us to talk to adults and our peers and develop our confidence in sharing our news and talk about our experiences. We take turns to talk ensuring only one person talks at a time.

Dd

Drawing

Drawing helps to develop my fine motor skills. Drawing with a pen, crayon, chalk and paintbrush help to develop my co-ordination and control of a pencil.

Ee

Exciting

Foundation Stage is an exciting time where we learn from first hand experiences. If we are excited and motivated we develop an enthusiasm for learning and school!

Ff

Friends

In Foundation Stage I gain confidence in making new friends and developing positive relationships with my peers. I learn to take turns with my friends, be kind and considerate and begin to understand their needs and feelings.

Gg

Gym

I take part in gym to help develop my physical skills. I develop my awareness of space and my ability to move in different ways. I learn to balance on different parts of my body and to use apparatus to jump safely. I also learn to move in different directions.

Hh

Healthy

I learn to be healthy by managing my personal hygiene. I try different healthy foods during snack time. I learn about the importance of brushing my teeth and washing. I also learn about the dangers of the sun and wearing sunscreen.

Ii

Imagination

I have lots of opportunities to be involved in imaginative play. By using small world toys I can make up my own stories. I also take part in imaginative role play, dressing up and acting out my own scenarios in the class role play area.

Jj

Jigsaws

These are great for developing my fine motor skills which help to develop my control with small objects including holding a pencil. I enjoy completing lots of different puzzles sometimes linked with numbers and the alphabet and sometimes large floor puzzles where I need to take turns.

Kk

Kindness

We learn to think about what we say to our friends and learn to think about other people's feelings, needs, cultures and beliefs. We help one another to put on our painting aprons, put on our shoes and coats. We look after our friends if they are sad.

Ll

Library

We visit the school library once a week and enjoy borrowing a range of different books. In the library we learn to browse and learn about how books work.

Mm

Model making

This helps to develop our physical skills through using construction kits such as lego, sticklebricks or mobilo. It also helps to extend our concentration span. We also build with reclaimed materials such as boxes and tubes. We learn to select our own tools and resources.

Nn

Numbers

Lots of first hand experiences help me to learn my numbers. Counting at register time, snack time and in my play helps me to learn about numbers. I learn to count to 10. I learn to count sets of objects carefully. I then learn to recognise numerals 1-10.

Oo

Outside

Our learning environment is not just inside but also out! Everything we do inside can be done outside. We enjoy model making on a larger scale, we enjoy digging and gardening, we observe the changes in our garden throughout the seasons and observe the wildlife.

Pp

Parents

Our parents are the first and most important educators. If they work with staff in the setting it has a positive impact on our learning. Parents are encouraged to come in to help. If you are interested please contact a member of staff.

Qq

Quiet time

Sometimes after a busy day I want to be quiet. I might go and sit in the reading area and enjoy a book. I sometimes listen to stories on the tape recorder.

Rr

Role play

Role play, whether it be dressing up, playing shops, schools, airports, spaceships, is all part of the fantasy world of childhood. Through fantasy and imitation, we learn to understand how relationships work, both in their own world and in the often-puzzling complex world they see around them. Such play is also a vital vehicle for developing children's language skills.

Ss

Sand

It can be used wet or dry, piled up to represent landscapes, contoured for roads, laid out with small toys, moulded into representational shapes, weighed, used to explore capacity, written in, or used in the telling of stories.

Tt

Technology

We are growing up in a world where technology is all around us. We learn about and use everyday technology such as the microwave, toaster, washing machine and digital camera. We use the computer controlling the mouse carefully to complete a programme.

Uu

Undress and dress

We learn to develop our independence through dressing and undressing working towards putting on our own aprons, changing our shoes and changing into our P.E. kits.

Vv

Valued

In the Foundation Stage we ensure that all children feel included, valued and secure. This helps to develop our confidence in our capabilities so we know we can face anything!

Ww

Water

Water play is not only fun but helps to develop our control and co-ordination. We pour liquids carefully into containers which is the beginning of early capacity work.

Xx

Xylophones and other musical instruments

I enjoy exploring the sounds that I can make with different instruments. I also begin to develop my awareness of rhythm through musical games. I use my body to move to the music.

Yy

Yoghurts and yummy snacks

Snack time is an important time where we develop our personal, social and emotional growth. We try new and unusual foods and help to prepare our snack on occasions.
